Have you ever wondered "What would this Harry Potter
character read if they lived nowadays? It is an interesting
question which I will try and answer in this blog! Each
blog will focus on one character from Harry Potter, and I will
give 3-5 different books that I could imagine them reading if they
lived today. Hopefully, this will also be able to give you some interesting recommendations for new and old books you need to check out!

Harry is an interesting character. Most of us consider him as both loyal, brave and even a selfless person who cared much for those around him. Even after graduating from Hogwarts, he had an interesting career, where he got to explore many different things. I see Harry as a character that would not be able to sit still for long periods of time, at least during his teen years, as there was constantly something to do. But when there finally was a moment of peace where he could sit back, relax and read a book - what would he then read?
This book written by Michael Scott is an interesting telling, with incredible potential. It tells the story of Nicholas Flamel and eternal life - while it is believed he died in 1418, he is still very much alive and the main protector of the very powerful "Book of Abraham the Mage" book, which could destroy the world if it ended up in the wrong hands. But a disaster unfolds, and the book ends up in the hands of a dangerous man - but a prophecy has ensured two young heroes with the fate of the world. They will soon find themselves in a legend that people did not expect to exist, but that they know is very much real. The Alchemyst is the first in a series of six books, and was first published in 2007. It is a perfect book for those who enjoyed Harry Potter or even the Kane Chronicles and is also perfect for a younger audience.
This book written by Tiana Warner is a tale about taking your future into your own hands and becoming the hero you want to be. Sigrid was plain, and it was clear that she was going to go no warrior path for her, but she would simply end as a plain, boring stable hand - but everything changes when an attack is sat in, and Sigrid believes she sees a glimpse of her own future - one much different than the current one she is living. The only problem with taking the future into her own hands is that her destiny is tied together with the fallen valkyrie Mariam, who has ended up on the enemy's side, and which she slowly sees herself falling for. The Valkyrie's Daughter is a true story about taking your future and making it yours. The book is based on Norse Mythology, and it is the first book in The Helheim Prophecy, which is a still ongoing series, as this book was published in 2022.
This book written by Angie Sage is a magical book. Septimus Heap, the 7th son of the 7th son, was stolen shortly after his birth by his very own midwife - why could only be wondered, but Septimus Heap is said to have more magical powers than others. The same night he is stolen by the midwife, his very own father finds a violet-eyed girl, Jenna, in the snow and decides to take her inside and raise her as their own kid. Yet, this is only the beginning of a story filled with magic, potions, spells and charms that are introduced over an interesting journey through the books. Magyk was first written in 2005 and is the first book in the Septimus Heap series, which consist of 7 different books and two companions, so if you loved the first one then there will be more than enough to continue your reading journey with!
This book was written by Jonathan Stroud and tells the story of Nathaniel who since the age of 5 has been sent to become an apprentice. The problem is simply his master who is cold and a middle-ranking magician, but his wife is something different and makes him feel like he belongs alright - at least until his 11th-year-old birthday when he is betrayed by his very own master. Nathaniel wants revenge. While he acts like he does what his master asks him, he is collecting knowledge by himself to better his magic to get the revenge he wants, and within long he has gotten the strength to summon a 5,000 years old Bartimaeus, but magic is a dangerous thing - and Nathaniel will soon learn that. The Amulet of Samarkand is the first in a series of 3 books and was first published in 2003. It is a great read if you wish for a book with a bit of comedy and a large focus on magic.
There are many books that the characters could be reading nowadays, and these are just a couple of examples of what I believe that they maybe would be reading.
