Since realizing that at least part of the Ghost Island treasure lay at the bottom of a well in the Forbidden Forest, James Dresden and I had been doubling our efforts to get to the bottom, literally, of what we’d have to do next.
We would have to get to the bottom of the well somehow, and we couldn’t just say “Accio Treasure”, to make the chest come to us. We also couldn’t just use the “Bombarda” spell to blow up the top part of the well.
“What if we used ‘Aguamenti’ to fill the well with water so the treasure could rise to us?” I suggested that afternoon as we stood around the well.
“And what happens when the treasure is buried under the well itself?” My boss asked.
“Uh… I don’t know.” I thought for a minute and then said, “Should we go down inside the well to see what the bottom is made of? It’s not too deep, and we can use Spongify to soften the landing.”
“Now, that’s not a bad plan,” James conceded. “Plus, you passed your Apparition test, right?” When I nodded he said, “Then we can always just apparate out if we run into trouble. Wands out, then.”
After performing the Spongify spell (SPUHN-jee-fye) a pink light shone from our wands. We jumped into the well, and I hoped the spell had worked. Since we’d both performed the spell, we had an extra soft landing!
“There’s a trap door!” I pointed down and called “Alohomora!” The door opened and I climbed down what I thought was a ladder. Unfortunately for me, large vines started to grab me and tried to strangle me. “It’s Devil’s Snare!” I cried up at James in horror.
“Just relax! I’ve got you!” He ordered, and I did my best to think of my girlfriend Tessa, instead of the painful vines. “Lumos Solem!” James called, and I slid down into the darkness.
James appeared beside me and lit his wand with the “Lumos” spell. “You alright?” He asked with worry, reaching for my hand.
“Never better,” I smirked, letting my boss help me to my feet. I looked around, lighting my wand so we had more brightness. “What is this place?”
All we could see was a long dark tunnel stretching out before us. “I think our hunt for the treasure just got a bit harder…”
I only knew that I was glad I’d paid attention in Charms class!
